Values Sorting
Values and the principles or standards of behaviour; Your judgement of what is most important to you in life.
Identifying your values is a key part of coaching. If strengths are the tactics you use to get on in life, values are the strategies.
When you are clear about your values, you have a better understanding of why certain situations feel great, and others more challenging. When you feel good, it is often because a value is being endorsed or supported by something or someone. When you feel bad, is often because a value (or multiple values) are being challenged. Identifying these help you process and respond better to opportunities and challenges.
You can also use your values to plan ahead for the future. If have a choice between a few roles or actions, you can score each against your top values. It allows you to predict how you may feel in new situations, based on your values.
Values exercise: Think about a time in your life when you felt most yourself. When things were in balance - you felt happy and motivated. Where were you? What were you doing? Who were you with? What values were being stimulated - or what values challenged? List down some ideas then work through the sheet.
